We’ve all been under their thumbs at one stage or another.

They’ve also had oodles of training with our physios and will always call upon the beady eye of a top physio whenever they’re needed to ensure that you soon feel better.

More than just a massage

We strongly encourage body awareness and self-treatment. We teach stretching techniques that can be used away from the clinic and identifying bad habits that may be causing muscular issues ie posture, computer setup, not drinking enough water.

This maximises the effect of the treatment, making it more worthwhile for your body and more cost effective for your wallet.

Remedial Massage (involves Deep Tissue Massage)

Remedial Massage means targeted deep tissue massage to your problem area’s.
It requires Diploma level lV study and is the type of massage recognised by Private Health insurance for people to be able to claim a rebate.

myPhysioSA remedial massage is finely tuned and sensitive.

We are aware that some clients want a heavy duty treatment to blast out muscles quickly and efficiently; but others require a more gentle approach.

We hold regular training workshops to ensure our team are flexible in treating both extremes of the spectrum.

Our remedial massage is about listening carefully; and responding to the needs of the individual on a case by case basis.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is helpful for anyone looking for a deep tissue massage that really massages the muscles – not just strokes the skin.

A common misconception is that sports massage is only for sports people – it’s not!

Whilst it’s invaluable to athletes who need pre and post event work to either loosen, repair or refresh sore, aching limbs; sports massage is also ideal for those who don’t necessarily play sports, but perhaps sit in the same position for long periods, or carry out repetitive tasks.

It can restore stiff, sore muscles to ones that move with pain-free ease; giving freedom from pain and discomfort.

Relaxation (Swedish) Massage

A combination of massage techniques used to relax, de-stress, increase circulation, re-energise those tired aching muscles.

Aromatherapy Massage (Mount Barker only)

Using a specific blend of essential oils tailored for the individual combined with Swedish massage to relax the body, mind and soul.


Does sports or remedial massage hurt?

Sometimes massage can be a little uncomfortable, but it is only ever a ‘good’ pain—you will just know it’s doing good. Please remember that you are always in charge, so if you’re uncomfortable in anyway please say and we’ll try a different technique!

Often clients will report having gone for a massage treatment with other styles of massage therapist and found it unsatisfactory, as it was far too light and not deep enough. There is certainly a place for this type of massage but it is not something we find our clients request very often here.

Of course if you want it light, or lighter, please say—we aim to give a massage you want, not a massage that we deem ‘appropriate’.

It is not unusual to feel a little delayed massage soreness for a day or so after a deep tissue massage. This is normal and shows that useful work was done – and that the body is healing!

Common post massage advice includes warming the area with a hot bath or a hot water bottle, drinking lots of water, and gentle but progressive stretching.

If you are worried in any way about being sore, please don’t hesitate to let us know, it really is no problem to work around.

Will you offer follow up support or advice after my massage treatment?

Yes. All clients are invited to remain in touch via email or telephone. Even if you only ever come for one treatment you are very welcome to get in touch for advice or referrals to other practitioners at any point in the future.

You may wish to go over what was discussed during the session—to revise stretching procedures for example. The best way to get in touch is via our clinic email.

What do I wear for a massage?

Generally you should wear as little as possible during your treatment. During the session you will be covered with a towel to retain your modesty, which is removed only to allow access to the area of the body that is being worked on.

Some clients wear just light, stretchy underwear on the lower body, which is great. More restrictive undergarments such as men’s long cotton boxer shorts—the type with no stretch, can make getting access to the hamstring/adductor attachments very difficult, and so work would then be carried out through a towel.

Although this towel technique is just as effective, it can get sore afterwards as it is not so easy to warm up the areas in preparation for heavier work.

The most important thing for us, is that you feel comfortable during your massage—whether you remain fully clothed or decide on wearing your underwear.

What sort of massage lotion do you use and why?

Water based oil is used. It is an odourless, colourless, light, non-staining oil that washes easily out of fabric. It soaks into the skin and will not leave you feeling greasy; rather it has a pleasant moisturising effect, leaving skin feeling silky smooth.

That means if you choose to come for a massage dressed elegantly, en-route to a fabulous party, you won’t leave feeling greasy and smelling like a hippy’s handbag.
